Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is the sixth studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters, released on September 25, 2007, through Roswell and RCA Records. The album is noted for a blend of regular rock and acoustic tracks with shifting dynamics, which emerged from the variety of styles employed on the demos the band produced. It also marks the second time the band worked with producer Gil Norton, whom frontman Dave Grohl brought to fully explore the potential of his compositions and have a record that sounded different from their previous work. Grohl tried to focus on songs with messages that resonated with his audience, writing reflective lyrics that drew inspiration from the birth of his daughter.

Right before its release in early 2021, Dave Grohl called Medicine at Midnight the Foo Fighters’ “Saturday Night party album” — a self-evaluation that turns out to be pretty accurate. It also functions as an acknowledgment of an open secret within the band’s catalog: for all their attributes, the Foos have rarely been “fun.” Foo Fighters fix that deficit by diving head on into disco and dance, the syncopations and polyrhythms so dominating Medicine at Midnight that the four-on-the-floor rock & roll ravers almost seem diminished in comparison. Dance-rock isn’t necessarily the height of exploration — the Rolling Stones cut disco the second they could back in the 1970s — but Foo Fighters have adhered to rock & roll basics for so long, the shift in rhythms seems nearly as giddy as the group’s unexpected celebration of the power of the hook. Big riffs battle with the kind of nagging singalong choruses the band have avoided over the years, a combination that makes Medicine at Midnight rush by with the intoxication of a good night out. Ballads are still part of the equation — there’s “Waiting on a War,” a reflection of a lifetime spent in the shadow of combat that builds to a cathartic crescendo, plus the dreamy “Chasing Bird,” which is the closest Foo Fighters have ever come to soul — but they provide necessary breathing room on a record that needs a brief respite from the relentless velocity of the rockers. The speed is crucial to the album’s appeal, of course: Medicine at Midnight is a speedy, hooky, and efficient record, every bit the party album Grohl promised. ― Allmusic

After a brief return to earth to deliver the tart, focused In Rainbows, Radiohead drift back into the ether with The King of Limbs. Like In Rainbows before it, the actuality of The King of Limbs is purposefully somewhat obscured by the hullabaloo surrounding the album’s surprise release — announced for a Saturday release on a Monday, shifted to a Friday — and in the case of KOL, such clamor is needed. Wispy and ephemeral, shimmering skin draped over the barest of bones, The King of Limbs doesn’t deliberately lack a solid foundation, songwriting traded for sound construction. Masters of mood that they are, Radiohead digitally weave stuttering, glitchy loops of drums and guitars with real instruments, Thom Yorke’s mournful moan and keening falsetto acting as a binding agent, creating an alluringly dour atmosphere. Despite a pair of intellectually funky moments — “Morning Mr. Magpie” and “Little by Little,” grouped together at the beginning, giving the album a slight hint of momentum that quickly fades — this is rather monochromatic and not too far removed from the territory Radiohead began etching out with Kid A. Where that icy 2000 effort had the bracing chill of the new, The King of Limbs is familiar — not commonplace, but carrying a certain inevitability as its eight songs slowly unspool. There are no surprises in the floating textures, no delight in the details, no astonishment in how the band navigates intricate turns: this is the sound of Radiohead doing what they do, doing it very well, doing it without flash or pretension, gently easing from the role of pioneers to craftsmen. ― Allmusic

Fuckin’ Up (also censored as Fu##in’ Up) is a live album by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse under the name Neil & The Horse, released on April 26, 2024, through the Other Shoe Productions and Reprise Records. It is a live recording of their 1990 grunge album Ragged Glory, with each track retitled with a phrase taken from the lyrics (with the exception of the cover version of “Farmer John”). The final song on Ragged Glory, “Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)”, was not performed. The album was recorded at a private birthday party held at the Rivoli in Toronto, Canada on November 4, 2023. Fuckin’ Up received positive reviews from critics.
